Aletschhorn rises beautifully above the Aletsch glacier, standing slightly apart from the more well known peaks of the Bernese Alps. And perhaps that’s why it carries such presence. There is a softness to its summit, yet its walls fall away in deep, shadowed folds carved by centuries of ice. The Aletsch glacier below always looks to me like a giant a slow white river. A river of memory shaped long before any of us arrived. Aletschhorn doesn’t shout for attention. It invites a quieter kind of respect, the kind that grows the more closely you look. I’d say this is the lesser photographed in the area, but on this day when I saw it, I had to capture it.
